High-resolution panoramic views on N9

Panorama shotsPanorama by Nokia is a camera application which produces high-resolution panoramic images by automatically capturing and processing input images into a panorama view. Therefore it's very easy to create stunning pictures straight on your Nokia N9. AllBout N9 shows how use this new application and how to make the best out of your panoramic shots.

How does it work?

When using Panorama application for the first time, make sure you have a look at Settings. I would suggest you switch Image resolution to "High" in case you plan on taking pictures of an open landscape. This uses much more space on the internal disk - but you won't face the disappointed of low quality panoramic photos, once you look at them on a bigger screen.  Additionally you find a very good user manual about how to use this application.

Be sure you choose the right image resolution / Integrated user manual

For a good panorama picture it needs some pre-thinking. Make sure no close obstacles are in the way, because once you start capturing you can't move from your position anymore. Furthermore it's important to have a look at the light conditions. The aperture you take a picture from, should have more or less the same brightness, so make sure you won't have the sun or another light source in the middle of your panorama shot.

1. Once you found your desired photo motif, focus the left or right edge of your view
2. Press camera icon to start capturing the view
3. Move the N9 slowly along your view until a hand shows up telling "hold still" - the app takes automatically the next picture
4. Continue until the hand is shown again - in case you get lost there are arrows in the overview showing what direction you have to move to
5. Press camera button a second time, once you reached the end of your panoramic view
6. Input images will be processed into the final panorama photo
7. Crop picture if necessary and save it to Gallery

The application offers a possibility to save each shot separately, this sure comes in handy if someone wants to merge those pictures manually with a more advanced software like Photoshop.

Panorama was a missing feature of the N9. Thus it's amazing that Nokia gave us this application. It's easy to use and results are very satisfying. What should be improved is the appearance of this application - a user interface with MeeGo / Symbian Belle design is completely missing and the icon looks terrible. Certainly not every user cares about that, but at least Nokia should follow the general design guide of their own platforms.
