Video of native Sailfish OS Spotify client


Spotify employee Bob Jelica (@b0bben on Twitter) just posted a video of a Sailfish Spotify client which was developed by him and Pär Bohrarper (@rogueops) as a Hackday project. The user interface shown in the video really looks great and could be an example for other, future Sailfish OS apps.

It's not sure though if this app gets ever released - follow Bob Jelica if you want to get the latest update about the project.

3rd party Swype-like keyboard for Sailfish OS

Since the release of Sailfish OS there has been a huge demand for a Swype keyboard. The patented virtual keyboard was originally developed for Android and has since found its way on various devices (including the Nokia N9). Instead of typing, words are written by sliding a finger over lettres: Error-correction algorithms help guessing the right word (which works very reliable). A French developer with the nickname 'eber42' recently showed a video with a working Swype keyboard on Sailfish OS.

Replacement for discontinued Nokia Internet Radio available

Unfortunately N9 (and Symbian) users had to find out that Microsoft/Nokia silently shut down their popular Internet Radio app. 
On Symbian you get a "Service not working" message but the N9 application suffers from crashing right at start up. 
Thanks to developer marxian, Nokia's latest move shouldn't hurt to much as he provided a nice replacement.

The Ultimate Codec Support for Sailfish OS


Sailfish OS is capable of playing media files in formats like MP3, MP4 and WMV. But media
containers like AVI are not officially supported since required codecs are missing. "Xerxes2" created a package which installs many additional codecs and makes your Jolla capable of decoding many known media file formats.

DMCA goes after unofficial WhatsApp clients on GitHub

The American "Digital Millennium Copyright Act" on behalf of WhatsApp Inc. started an attack against public available source code of reverse engineered WhatsApp API (Application programming interface) and affiliated files. 

Affected are several WhatsApp clients like the well known N9 version called Wazapp. According to DMCA they "continue to cause significant harm to WhatsApp".

The better "Notes" app for Nokia N9

Notes on Nokia N9 is a simple kept note taking app which misses one important feature: A possibility to back up, or copy your notes. ExNote by Tomasz Pieniazek is a perfect imitation of the original system tool but saves all the notes you take in MyDocs as HTML files. 
Hence it's possible to access or copy your notes via USB connection mass-storage mode.

Instant music search with SoundWave

SoundHound (Shazam) Nokia N9
The award winning SoundHound application is now available for Nokia N9 under the name SoundWave thanks to Bojan Komljenovic (developer of Dropian & part of Wazapp team). SoundHound is an music recognition software similar to its equivalent Shazam.
With the application it's possible to identify a song title by humming, singing or playing a recorded track.

Shareboard by Anand Bibek is a small application for Nokia N9 which allows users to update their Facebook status or post a message on Twitter within one application. 

The application starts up very fast and optionally can post the same message automatically on both social networks.

Notekeeper brings Evernote to Nokia N9

Evernote is a very popular notetaking application to access any kind of notes at any place - offline or online. There have been attempts by 3rd party developers to create an client for Nokia N9 but without any convincing results.

Now we finally get to enjoy "Notekeeper" - a successful Symbian application which has been ported to MeeGo Harmattan.

A big amount of note-taking and reminder applications can be found in Nokia Store. But there is at least one which stands out among others: "PinIt! Lists" by a developer called Work by jookos

PinIt! isn't only a nifty application, it actually gives you the possibility to pin preferred reminders to your phone's lockscreen.

The Los Angeles Auto Show 2012 is held from November 30 through December 9. One of the many guests is the Nokia N9 which presents the MirrorLink technology.

Unravel - the challenge for now and then

Brick Tech recently released a new game for Nokia N9 called Unravel. Like its title says: It is about solving riddles. In the game you come across a variation of blue and red lines as well as blue rings. The aim is to move around the blue rings until every red line gets blue as well. As simple as that sounds, in practice it is not. The more levels you pass, the more concentration and logical thinking is required.
