[How-to] Update Warehouse app after 1.0.8.19 upgrade

Jolla's 1.0.8.19, Tahkalampi update brought some changes to RPM side-loading and packagekit authorizations.

Unfortunately this affects the OpenRepos.net Warehouse app and breaks the possibility to install apps from the 3rd party 'store'. OpenRepos maintainer Basil already provided an update which has to be installed manually.

Sailor Summer Ambience for Jolla

Dear Jolla users! A while ago I've already shared those 2 ambience wallpapers on Twitter, Facebook and Together.Jolla.com. On enquiry I post them again here, so they will be easier to find.

There are two download links, one for the original wallpaper and one for a high contrast wallpaper (whenever you use your Jolla in bright sunlight). Have a great summer and thank you for your interest!

The so called "early adopters" will receive an email with further instructions (you also find them in this blog post). Tourmaline high-contrast Ambiences

Ambiences on Jolla are a beautiful example of how the user interface can adapt to a wallpaper. Now towards summer (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) being a lot outside in the bright sun, you might have thought about having better contrasts and thus better readability on your Jolla.

A solution for that is to use a dark wallpaper with a strong Ambience colour: AllBout's Tourmaline high-contrast Ambiences do exactly that and come in 6 different colours.

Useful Android apps for your Jolla

Android support on Sailfish OS has some great benefits and certainly helps the platform to gain popularity. But more and more native Sailfish application appear on Jolla Store or on OpenRepos (Warehouse) which make the device independant from non-native apps. Despite that, here are some Android apps you might want to use on your Jolla.

Help for WhatsApp registration request by SMS

To this day Nokia N9 users need the community created Wazapp to communicate with WhatsApp users. While the application works incredible well and has an outstanding user-interface, it doesn't always run flawless. Most problems happen during the registration request by SMS because WhatsApp is trying to block such unofficial clients.
There is a possibility to request the activation SMS via an external link.

Lost access to your N9? Here's a solution

We all should know it: Never loose or forget the device's lock-password (not the SIM Code, but the code for the system). If that happened, there wouldn't be a way to access your N9 anymore - even USB storage mode would be gone. Even user-data preventing firmware flash doesn't erase the password.

Where is N9 update PR 1.2 already available?

Many N9 users are still wondering: Why is PR 1.2 not available yet? We can't give an answer... The official statement is that over the air (OTA) updates are rolled out on a per-variant basis and that the exact schedule depends on aspects like network owner approvals. That's the reason why many N9 owners, who bought the phone with a contract at a cellphone company,  haven't yet received the very popular update.

Flash Nokia N9 firmware using Mac OSX

Since the necessary NaviFirm isn't available for Mac OSX, it has been much easier for Windows users to flash a Nokia N9 device. But with the right tools there's a way to reach the goal without using a PC. An application called WineBottler is needed and a special version of NaviFirm.

Repair push notification services

Applications like Nokia Pulse and ebuddy XMS use push techonolgy to inform you about new events. Both applications aren't yet available as a final release and push messages of ebuddy XMS didn't always work reliable so far. MeeGo Harmattan update PR 1.2 should improve that experience - but some users confront a big disappointment after the update; push seems not to work anymore at all... But of course there is a way to fix that.
