
It's know that some people have been working on porting this application to Nokia N9 (and its predecessor N900). Various discussions on for example http://talk.maemo.org confirm that. But just a few hours ago some "tweets" showed up on twitter which could give some hope to all the WhatsApp fans.
So even if you can't wait to have a look at this project, be patient - we try to keep you updated.
But what we can say for sure is: The community and especially developers which put so much energy into such projects and applications are amazing! Thank you!

- Wednesday, March 7: First usable version by next week? Source: talk.maemo.org
- Monday, March 12: It looks very good for this release! It will likely support the accounts feature of N9 and the typical WhatsApp "Online" & "Last seen" messages.
- Thursday, March 15: The initial release will likely not support media-transfer

- Friday, March 30: The developer of the unofficial N9 WhatsApp project gives us again some interestings news. It will be possible to setup WhatsApp via native N9 account manager and parses automatically your personal user code. - Friday, April 20: A video of the WhatsApp port (called Wazapp) has been posted on Youtube. More informations here.
- Tuesday, April 24: The developer indicated on Twitter that it would be "a good day for Wazapp". Furthermore a hint with the date May 1st - a possible public release date?
- Tuesday, April 24: Developer Tarek Galal confirmed on Twitter that there will be a public beta release on May 1st, 2012.
- Saturday, April 28: Work on connection status indicator and automatic reconnection are done (Source Tarek Galal on Twitter)
- Tuesday, May 1: Today should be the release day of a Wazapp public beta version. According to the developer there unfortunately have been problems with the account manager. This problem is about to be fixed but causes a delay of the release.
- Wednesday, May 2: Wazapp is still not ready for download. A problem with receiving the WhatsApp registration SMS causes a further delay. The developer confirmed that it would be a matter of hours until the release.
- Thursday, May 17: Wazapp beta version is officially released and ready to download. More about that here.
- Friday, May 26: Wazapp is now open-source.
