PagSeguro NFC - the future of payments

In partnership with Nokia, the Brazilian-based e-commerce business PagSeguro announced the first payment solution between NFC phones. NFC (Near Field Communication) establishes communication between supported devices by touching or bringing them into close proximity.

NFC payment between two Nokia N9
Nokia's most advanced smartphones like the N9, Nokia 701 and C7 support this technology. You might have used NFC to transfer files between phones or connect your device to Nokia headsets or Nokia Play 360° speakers.

NFC technology is already used in several countries like Australia or Japan. Especially some Asian countries offer many services using NFC. Therefore you can pay for your purchases or pay for public transportation by touching your phone with a pay-machine in train or bus. The possibilities with NFC are huge - imagine for example an arts exhibition where you can use NFC to get easily information about paintings onto your phone.

PagSeguro introduces a possibility to pay bills between two NFC supported phones. Their application PagSeguro NFC lets you store various credit cards and the debtor only needs to enter the amount of money and a security code.

The question about the safety of this payment method is very common. NFC PagSeguro protects the transactions with a password, while other transactions (like paying transportation tickets) are often done automatically. But the risk of abuse using NFC payments might be smaller than the use of a typical VISA card. Finally it always depends on how careful the one is who uses such payment methods.

PagSeguro NFC will be available for Nokia N9 to all Brazilian users within this year in early summer. Read more about it on the official blog of PagSeguro NFC (in Portuguese).
