We received an email today by one of our readers who asked us to spread following question: Who would be interested in a Steam Client on Nokia N9? Steam is a multiplayer and communications platform which distributes over 1500 games from small independent developers to big software houses. With over 40 million active users, Steam has a huge gaming-community.
Steam uses an own text chat and VOIP system where users can identify what their friends or members of groups are playing. Next to that, the messenger is often used as typical chat platform within registered users.
A developer at the Maemo community already started to work on a Steam client for Nokia N9. But since he lost his initial ambitions to develop the messenger, he is asking now if there are any N9 users being interested in a further development of this client:
I already have a working messenger that integrates with the contacts and messages UIs, but the account manager frontend needs some work (to work better with Steam Guard). The main reason I wanted this (to keep in contact with a friend who uses Steam almost exclusively) has gone away, but if there's some user interest I'd be happy to at least give it a second look or just release the code that I have.
