N9 photography at it's best

Nokia N9 photosDávid Detkó is a very passionated photographer having a lot of talent in taking beautiful, creative pictures. His favorite motifs are close-up photos of animals, plants and more - the colorful and contrast rich results are a joy to look at.

What is very special about it: All pictures are taken with a Nokia N9.

The Hungarian student got our attention on Twitter (@detkodave) where he weekly started to post new photos - one stunning photo after another and all taken with a Nokia N9. Soon I asked my self: What are the reasons he is using his smartphone to take such pictures? Dávid kindly gave some answers to that.

What was the initial idea to take those photos with a N9?
One of the reasons are that I don't own a camera. The other one that the N9 meets my expectations of a camera - it's very practical and always at one's fingertips.

Do you alter your pictures (e.g using Photoshop)?
Yes. I correct the lights and colors with Photoshop but never modify the content of the pictures. Alternations are a concomitant and part of professional photography nowadays and I don't consider it as fraud. I like to emphasize the essence of my pictures and use a unique way of design to express that.

What is important in taking such outstanding pictures?
The most important thing to me is to always have an open eye for new pictures. I always carry my smartphone with me and can be ready at any given moment once I see a new motif. Timing and a bit of luck is also necessary. I haven't always been lucky and more than a dozen times I prepared myself to take a picture of a certain topic but ended up not finding a suitable motif.

Is the Nokia N9 your first Nokia smartphone?
No it isn't. I had a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic before. But it was difficult to take beautiful shots since the camera was very inferior. But I could improve the quality of pictures by removing the backside of the phone casing.
