PR 1.3 about to arrive. PR 1.4 planned?

N9 users are very curious about the arrival of the next firmware update numbered PR1.3 - so are we. There have been various rumours about release dates and content which turned out to be not fully true (like this one). There are references though that PR1.3 is about to be released.
The Italian nokiateca blog even claims that they were informed by a responsible person of Nokia Italy about the existence of PR1.4.

What's the update on PR 1.3?

Any kind of news about PR1.3, wether about release date or content, could be completely wrong until it is officially announced by Nokia.

"Nokia does not comment on rumours or speculation concerning anything not officially announced by the company"

So far nobody knows anything outside of Nokia. The most reliable evidence about an upcoming PR1.3 was posted by Stuart Howarth, developer of famous applications like CuteTube or MusiKlout. On June 16, he showed a copy of an email written by Nokia Technical Support, which informed him that his actual version of CuteTube could have incompatible issues with the release of new firmware, which certainly indicated that PR1.3 will be available in the near future.

"If your application is not updated before the launch of the new firmware there is a possibility that your application may receive negative reviews due to crashes that users of your app will face on the new firmware."

Another question is: In what ways will PR1.3 improve Nokia N9? From "big surprises" to "only bug fixes" there are again several rumours around. We recommend to not expect more than bug fixes but got many great comments about what N9 users are hoping for.

• Tethering available on any computer (without the need of additional software)
• Video calls with Skype 
• UI and speed improvements
• Landscape mode for more applications
• Better USB on-the-go support
• Possibility to copy/paste email content
• Faster GPS lock
• Better integration and more flexible integration of contacts in caller application
• Fixing Wi-Fi bugs
• Flash support for default browser
• Further improvements of navigation software (e.g choose between fastest and shortest route)
• Zoom while recording a video
• Improved video player (fixing bug with HD videos)
• Updated Facebook application (own pages, check-in possibility, groups)
• Possibility to edit Office files
• Boost volume (although this probably is a hardware limitation)
• Solve issues with Push notifications
• Proper VPN support

Hopefully we will see many of those suggestions being implemented into PR1.3. With important people leaving the MeeGo development team in August 2012, it's uncertain at the moment if we will see further updates after PR1.3.
