Nokia Ovi Suite with N9 (Windows)

IMPORTANT: This article is outdated! Please download Nokia Suite for N9

Officially, Nokia N9 is not supported by Nokia Suite. But there's a workaround to make it work with an older Version of Nokia Ovi Suite and you'll be able to sync your Outlook contacts and calendars (not all options will work though).

This post is separated into 3 parts:
  • Install Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0
  • Update Ovi Suite 3.0 to Ovi Suite 3.2
  • What you need to know

To set it up you need about 15 minutes, here's the instruction:

1.Download Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.290 (please report if link doesn't work)

2. Turn off any internet connection (wire-less and ethernet) and open Nokia Ovi Suite Setup.
Make sure you are offline and install the right version of Ovi Suite
3. Let the installation run - when done start Nokia Ovi Suite.
Since you use an old version of Nokia Suite, you don't need to select the "Help us to improve"-option

4. Plug-in your N9 with a USB cable and choose "Sync and connect" on your device - the phone will be detected
The N9 and computer can be connected with a USB cable or Bluetooth connection

5. Ignore any "No internet connection" warnings and stay offline to complete the setup

6. Navigate to the "Tools/Options" menu as soon as you start Ovi Suite. There you turn off automatic updates

7. Now you finally can turn back on your internet connection and log in to Ovi Store (which is the same as Nokia Store)

8. Wait about 5-10 minutes while Ovi Suite synchronizes certain data. Congratulations! Now you can use Ovi Suite with your N9!

Optional: Update to Ovi Suite 3.2

It is possible to update to Ovi Suite 3.2 which works even better in some parts and has a newer user-interface. It's necessary to install this version over the one you already have installed. Else the N9 will not be recognized.

1. Download Nokia Ovi Suite 3.2 (please report if link doesn't work)

2. Repeat step 2-8 from above (don't forget to turn off internet connection again) and enjoy!

What you need to know:

This solution gives you a more or less satifying way to use Ovi/Nokia Suite. Because of ridiculous management decisions by Nokia, the N9 will not be officially supported and Nokia will likely try to stop people from using Ovi/Nokia Suite with any N9 phone.
That's why it's important that you don't update the versions of Ovi Suite you've just installed. Any further update will block your N9 and force you to use NokiaLink.

Next to that you can't use all functions of Ovi Suite. The administration of maps is impossible, music synchronization is limited and writing or importing messages sometimes won't work properly.
If for any reason Ovi Suite stops working or crashes, close it and reboot your computer (or stop any of its background tasks with task manager).

Does it work for you? What do you think about Nokia's decision to block Nokia Suite? Please leave your comment and let us know.
