The story behind Nokia N9's wallpapers

Pictoplasma wallpaper
Have you ever asked yourself where those funny, weird wallpaper on the Nokia N9 come from? They are from project Pictoplasma, which originated in Berlin, Germany. Pictoplasma collects, archives and researches reduced and abstract contemporary character design and art and has a worldwide network of artists, designers, agencies and prospective clients.

Using their artwork as wallpapers for the N9 smartphone, Nokia supported Pictoplasma's exhibition and produced a video about their activities.

Nokia N9 comes with about 16 wallpapers full of Pictoplasma's abstract "character portraits" which all have a discrete, graphical language. The following video shows the originals of many of those wallpapers, talks about project Pictoplasma, the relationship to Nokia and the N9. Seems that Nokia put a lot of effort into relating the N9 to contemporary art and give it its own character.

"Curated by Nokia as an exclusive collection of wallpapers for the beautiful N9 smartphone, this exhibition like Pictoplasma Festival itself, connects characters and places, bringing people together from every point on the map."
