PR 1.3 available before end of May?

The author of a Russian N9 blog got some hot news about the future firmware update (PR 1.3) for Nokia N9. Finding no information about the next update, blogger Charlie Matroskin simply filled out a question form on the official Russian Nokia website and asked: "When will there be the next firmware-update for Nokia N9?"

Just 2 days later a Nokia worker called Matroskin and gave him an small insight on the status of the update. He was told that the PR 1.3 firmware is being tested and would probably be released before end of May 2012. Furthermore the Nokia worker informed that there will be a big amount of enhancements which will surprise MeeGo Harmattan users. Of course he couldn't reveal more information without risking to loose his job...

Unfortunately he couldn't say whenever Skype will support video calls and pointed out that Skype is a product of a Nokia third-party-developer. The since PR 1.2 available Gtalk-video-call add-on shows, that Skype could do the same already now but hasn't been developed/published.

What we also wished to see in PR 1.3 are among other things:

Skype video calls
Skype video calls. Will
the wish become true?
1. More bug fixes and reduction of system-lags
PR 1.2 reduced system-lags a lot and gave the N9 a very smooth user experience. But we're sure there is still space for improvement. Especially after reboots or long stand-by times, fast scrolling or swiping can feel a bit choppy for a few seconds. Major bugs were removed with PR 1.2 - but the N9 is certainly not free of them.

2. Better Bluetooth/USB tethering
Thanks to the included Wi-Fi hotspot application it is pretty easy to share your mobile internet plan with any other device. Tethering would be another way to do that - in some situation the even better one, especially if you share your data plan just with a computer. Furthermore USB tethering uses much less energy than an activated Wi-Fi hotspot. So far this seems to be working with PC Suite and Nokia Link, but not successfully for everyone.

3. Better push-notification support
Push notifications are a mystery on the N9. They somehow don't seem to work very well and it has been very puzzling to make them work. Everyone who uses the instant messenger ebuddy XMS knows how unreliable push service works.

4. Faster GPS localization when using Maps or Drive
Some users are complaining that it sometimes takes way to long until a GPS connection is built up and location updated. This certainly can be improved.
