Nokia N9 still enjoys great popularity

GSM Arena is a very informative website about any kind of handsets.  With a huge amount of reviews, customer opinions, ratings and a very complete catalog of available handsets, GSM Arena is one of the top sources for mobile phone content.

An interesting feature of the website is their ranking and popularity system. If you look at further information about a mobile phone, you automatically get to see its popularity. We were wondering how well the Nokia N9 does 6 month after its release and got pleasantly surprised.

Keeping up with the best

If we have a look at the rankings page of GSM Arena we get to see a ranking by rate (rating by users about design, features and performance) and by interest (how many page views a mobile phone had).

Ranking by interest (page views/hits)

The ranking by rate only shows the best 15 devices in the list. Except for the older Nokia N8, no other Nokia phone is present. But with a closer look we see that the rating (1-10 points) differs by 0.001 points between the first and last device on the list (8.289 - 8.288 points).

If we search for Nokia N9 we learn to know that the MeeGo phone has an overall rating of 8.3 points (BUT rounded to the 1st decimal point). To stop throwing around with numbers we can simply say: The N9 belongs without doubt to one of the best rated phones on GSM Arena and is next to the N8 the best rated Nokia phone on the market.

What's even more surprising: The N9 ranks 9th among the most popular devices (measured in page views). This isn't a self-evident result since the ranking also shows older phones which had more time to gain page views. Being the only modern Nokia phone in the list it keeps up with big competitors like the iPhone 4 or Samsung Galaxy SII.

Have a look at the stats at GSMArena Statistics

N9 and N8 most popular Nokia phones on the market

If we look at the daily interest of phones we again have a positive picture about the N9. The only other Nokia phones which can beat the N9 are the very popular but older N8 (running Symbian) and the upcoming Nokia 808 Pureview (running Symbian), which enjoys a big attention right now since it is about to be released. Same used to happen with the N9 which had a daily interest of 91%.

The Lumia 800 with Windows Phone comes close to the N9, but we have to consider that the Windows Phone was advertised much stronger in remarkably more and bigger markets - so there are certainly many people in the world who heard about Lumia phones, but never about Nokia N9.

We like to remind you that those statistics from GSM Arena are not an accurate measure but an approximation. Furthermore we didn't find out exactly how the daily interest is measured. Maybe one of our readers knows more? We asked GSM Arena and will post their explanation here.
