It is a pleasure to write about another new, homemade The Other Half for Jolla. This time it is an extended battery cover made by Olli-Pekka Heinisuo. This TOH gives the phone an additional boost with a slim 2000mAh Polymer lithium-ion battery. The cover is charged via separate USB terminal and can be activated with a power switch at the bottom-right side.
The used USB LiPoly charging circuit has embedded LED lights which indicate charging statue of the cover battery as well as (with a dimmer light) active use of it. On talk.maemo.org Heinisuo says that:
"The power switch cuts the power between those two boards so the setup works in these modes:
1. Charge the phone only from the Power Half
2. Charge the Power Half only
3. Charge both simultaneously"
Charging current is about 780 to 790mA what is really nice and faster than charging via typical computer USB terminal (around 500mA on USB 2.0).
The shown setup costs around €23-25 with a 3D model designed and printed by the developer himself (available for download). Furthermore you need following pieces:
- Copper tape
- wire
- a SPDT power switch or similar
