How to connect a wireless keyboard to the N9

Ever wondered if it's possible to connect a keyboard with a mobile phone? With btinput by Marcin Kazmierczak, a bluetooth keyboard and a N9 you can. Not more than 2 clicks and the connection is built up so that you can use a physical keyboard in any application on your phone.

How to use btinput?

Nokia N9 and Apple Wireless Keyboard
It is very simple to connect a keyboard to the N9. Turn on Bluetooth (a simple way to turn it on/off? Click here) on your phone and make sure your wireless keyboard is on and ready to connect (make use of the keyboard user guide if you don't know how to do that). In case you use that keyboard with another device (like a computer), it's recommended to disconnect them first.

Now open btinput application and you get a list of available Bluetooth devices. Don't worry in case you get a long list! BtInput will list any device which has a running bluetooth connection - that can be computers, mouses, game pads etc... To enable the connection, just tap on the name of your keyboard and a green icon will show up. In my case I clicked on "Apple Wireless Keyboard".

To disconnect, just click the same keyboard name again. If your keyboard isn't found or you want to refresh the list, click on the icon at the bottom-left of the application.

Which wireless keyboards will work?

Btinput should work with most wireless keyboards. So far you get only the US keyboard interface with this application (for example Z will be at the place of Y for some). Some wireless keyboards try to reconnect for some reason while using them - this breaks the connection and btinput won't realize it.

It also should be possible to connect a wireless mouse to the N9. But I would not recommend that, since a cursor isn't visible and in the worst case the hole system could freeze or crash. So better don't try that if you want to avoid any problems.

Available in Nokia Store

Btinput is a great piece of software and is worth to try out. Maybe it will get more functions in the future, like support for multiple keyboard layouts or even different wireless devices.
